Young Lawyers ConferenceNamed for legendary civil rights attorneys Oliver Hill and Samuel Tucker, the Oliver Hill/Samuel Tucker Pre-Law Institute reaches future lawyers at an early age to provide them with exposure and opportunity to explore the legal profession, at no cost to the participants. The Young Lawyers Conference invites current high school students to apply for this year’s Institute, which will be held June 26-30, 2017, at the University of Richmond. Free National Weather Service SKYWARN Class on April 17

The Charlottesville-UVA-Albemarle Office of Emergency Management is hosting a National Weather Service (NWS) SKYWARN class on Monday, April 17, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. This is a free class taught by the NWS that is designed to educate the public on weather threats in this area, as well as strengthen the ties between the NWS and the local community. Upon completion of the course, participants will be registered in the NWS spotter program. The more spotters the NWS has out there, the faster vital information gets to the NWS forecasters who make the decisions to issue lifesaving weather warnings. Register by April 13 »

VA High School Student Voter Registration Week: April 23-29

Terry McAuliffeGovernor McAuliffe has issued a proclamation to officially recognize April 23-29, 2017, as Virginia High School Student Voter Registration Week. During this week, high school students, teachers, and administrators across the Commonwealth are encouraged to conduct voter registration drives at their schools. As part of the Governor’s Challenge in High School Voter Registration, schools that succeed in registering at least 65 percent of their voting-age population will receive a congratulatory certificate.
