Free World Peace Game Master Class With John Hunter – Informational Meeting on Feb. 8

World Peace Game FoundationAlbemarle County is sponsoring teachers to participate in a World Peace Game Master Class in Charlottesville from June 18-22. Using John Hunter’s World Peace Game as an inspiring and challenging analogy, master class participants observe Hunter facilitating the game live with students each morning. Afternoon sessions focus on introducing teachers to the guiding philosophy and pedagogical principles that underlie the game; essential attributes necessary to facilitate the game; and designing learning that is inspired by the principles and spirit of the game.

Interested participants are invited to an informational meeting on February 8 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the ARC at Murray High School. Please direct questions to John Hobson at jhobson@k12albemarle.org.

Mobile Dairy Classroom: FREE Nutritional & Educational Program Now Available in Virginia!

Southland Dairy FarmersThe Southwest Dairy Museum, Inc., through Southland Dairy Farmers, a local promotional and educational organization funded entirely by local dairy farmer producers in Kentucky, North Carolina, and Virginia through the national Dairy Checkoff Program, is proud to sponsor the Mobile Dairy Classroom. The Mobile Dairy Classroom is a part of a dynamic agricultural and nutritional education program. The 32-foot traveling classroom features a fully operational milking parlor and carries a live milk cow to schools throughout the state of Virginia. The Mobile Dairy Classroom is enjoyed by all ages, but targeted toward students in grades 2-12. Learn more »

Teacher Transfer Requests for 2018-2019

TeacherTeacher Transfer Requests are now open to all tenured teachers desiring consideration for new assignments for the 2018-2019 school year. Teachers who are on a Performance Improvement Plan or who will be on an active improvement plan for the upcoming school year are not eligible to apply for a transfer. All other teachers are welcome to apply for jobs online as vacancies become available.

The deadline to submit the Transfer Request Form is February 28, 2018; however, a tenured teacher may apply for a transfer through June 15, 2018. Continue reading

Inclusion Project: Submit a Mini-Grant Application by Jan. 29

VCU School of Education Partnership for People with DisabilitiesThe Virginia Department of Education, in collaboration with the Partnership for People with Disabilities, supports the Inclusion Project, a youth-led initiative to increase disability awareness in schools. Beginning January 2018, the Inclusion Project is pleased to announce it is offering up to 6 mini grants (max: $2,000) to support K-12 schools interested in planning an Inclusion Project event.
