Schedule for Required Summer/August PD Sessions Now Available!

Summer 2014 PD OpportunitiesThe Summer 2014 Professional Development Catalog now includes the August sessions! Take a moment to register for any and all sessions you plan to participate in during the month of July or on August 11 and 12. If you have questions about any of the required sessions, please talk with your principal or visit Summer/August 2014 Professional Development Requirements.

To check your registrations, log in to the Summer 2014 Professional Development Catalog using the “Sign In” link in the upper right-hand corner. Refresh your browser window and look for the “My Enrollments” link on the left. If you want to un-enroll in a session, click the check box beside it and delete the item.

JMRL Annual Street Party: Summer Reading KICK-OFF HULLABALOO

JMRL LogoCelebrate the sweet start of summer fun at the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library’s annual street party (Central Branch), June 7th from 10 a.m. to noon. Don’t miss face painting from 10 to 11, or the chance to check out the Friends’ mini-book sale. Enjoy popcorn and doughnuts, and sign up for your Summer Reading Club of choice—adults, teens, or kids.

VAST Mini-Grant for Teaching – Apply by June 1

VAST LogoThe Virginia Association of Science Teachers (VAST) Mini-Grant Program seeks to provide seed money for innovative curriculum activities that expand learning opportunities for science students. Individual and team applications are now being accepted! The Project Director must be a member of VAST (dues paid for 2014), must have taught at the elementary or secondary level for a minimum of three years, and must be currently employed as a teacher. It is anticipated that most awards will be made in the range of $200-$500. Grant applications are due by June 1. Get more details >>>

2014-15 Teacher Contracts

ContractAttention Teachers: Human Resources will be providing recommendations for the reappointment of teachers at the May 22 School Board meeting. Contracts will be sent out shortly thereafter, contingent upon the approval of the reappointments and salary scales. Please check your school mailbox or see your school administration for your contract packet. Included in the packet will be a personalized letter with your 2014-2015 FTE, days per year, step, degree level, tenure date when applicable, and number of paychecks. Please carefully review all information and return one signed and dated copy of the contract to your principal before leaving for the summer. Continue reading

Wild Ones Invites Applications for Native Plant Education Projects – Due October 15

Wildflower and ButterflyWild Ones, a nonprofit environmental education and advocacy organization, is accepting applications from projects designed to strengthen an appreciation for nature in young people. Through the Lorrie Otto Seeds for Education Fund, grants of up to $500 will be awarded for projects that emphasize the involvement of students and volunteers in all phases of development.
