Free National Weather Service SKYWARN Class on April 17

The Charlottesville-UVA-Albemarle Office of Emergency Management is hosting a National Weather Service (NWS) SKYWARN class on Monday, April 17, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. This is a free class taught by the NWS that is designed to educate the public on weather threats in this area, as well as strengthen the ties between the NWS and the local community. Upon completion of the course, participants will be registered in the NWS spotter program. The more spotters the NWS has out there, the faster vital information gets to the NWS forecasters who make the decisions to issue lifesaving weather warnings. Register by April 13 »

CodeREDThe Office of Emergency Management recommends that all residents and businesses in the Charlottesville-Albemarle region register for the CodeRED Weather Warning. By registering, residents may receive tornado, severe thunderstorm, and flash flood warnings. Subscribers can select the type of messages they would like to receive as well as how they are warned, including phone, text and email. Learn more »

BOLT: Being Outstanding Leaders Together Against Drugs and Alcohol – April 24

On April 24, all Charlottesville/Albemarle middle school students and parents are invited to attend BOLT—a fun family event promoting healthy lifestyles and leadership through drug and alcohol education. Parents will hear from UVA’s Gordie Center for Substance Abuse Prevention, while students will hear from David Flood, a national motivational speaker. Free Tax Prep for Households Making Less Than $55,000

Cville Tax Aid 2017Free tax preparation assistance for the 2016 tax season will be available January 23 – April 18, 2017, through Cville Tax Aid. To receive free tax preparation assistance at one of the 11 coalition sites in Charlottesville, Albemarle, and surrounding counties, taxpayers must have household income of less than $55,000 in 2016. Rio+29 Small Area Plan Community Meeting – Dec. 12

On December 12, the Rio+29 Small Area Plan project team will be sharing three land use alternative maps and soliciting feedback on which best achieves the community’s priorities for redevelopment of the Rio+29 area. The comments received at the community meeting will be used to develop a recommended land use map that will form the basis of the Rio+29 Small Area Plan, a guide for the form of future re/development.
