High School Student Video Contest

VSBA LogoThe Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) is asking high school students to express their thoughts and ideas about What’s Super About Public Schools through its second student video contest. Schools are invited to submit a 30-second video that conveys the contest theme. The top 3 videos, along with those identified by the judges as Honorable Mentions, will be posted on VSBA’s YouTube site. Submissions must be received by October 1, 2013.

Criteria
Videos will be judged on how well they address the topic as well as the quality of the production and the creativity of the video. No professional assistance can be provided to produce the video. The format of the video is up to the students. Videos can be a commercial, news broadcast, music video etc.

Submission Guidelines
To enter the contest, complete the three steps below. Submission must be received at the email address below by 11:59pm ET on October 1, 2013. Once the contest closes, our judges will select the top 3 videos which will be announced at the VSBA opening general session. By submitting a video, you understand that the use of the submission is completely at the discretion of VSBA.

Step 1: Make a video!
Make a video about the contest theme, What’s Super About Public Schools. It should

  • Be 30 seconds.
  • Tell us your story about public schools.

Step 2: Upload your video to the Internet
Upload your video to your video sharing site such as your YouTube account. If you have a Google account, you have a YouTube account.

Step 3: Submit your video.
Email gina@vsba.org with the following:

  • Your name, school name and school division
  • The URL of your uploaded video

Entry forms must be received by October 1, for video to be included in judging. Please make sure NOT to use any copy written material in your video.

Awards
The top three videos, as determined by the judges, will be shown during the opening general session of the 2013 VSBA Annual Convention that will be held in Williamsburg, November 20-22. Student directors of the top three videos, along with their respective principal and/or teacher, will be invited to the opening general session. First, second and third place winners will be announced during the ceremony.

Judging
Judging will be done by independent media and education professionals.
