Virtual Conferences Empower Educators to Connect to Learn/Learn to Connect

Virtual ConferenceThere are a number of upcoming virtual conferences on the horizon over the next few months, and it’s not too late to sign up to attend, participate, or take on a leadership role! Get started on planning your virtual professional development and consider submitting a proposal or volunteering to moderate for a virtual session! You can earn recertification points for these events and experiences just like traditional, face-to-face workshops and conferences!

The Global STEMx Education Conference (September 19-21) is “the world’s first massively open online conference for educators focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and more.” Perhaps the best of all, though, is it’s FREE and you can participate from your classroom, teacher’s work room, school library, or living room, as long as you have a good Internet connection!

Reform Symposium 4 (RSCON4) is scheduled for October 11-13 and will be a series of virtual talks and presentations by invited presenters that are sure to push anyone’s thinking about the future of education. The Reform Symposium Conference (RSCON) is a global community initiative to transform teaching and learning. You may even see some familiar ACPS faces and names as conference leaders and presenters!

Most of our school librarians will engage in the virtual conference The Digital Shift: Reinventing Libraries (October 16), combining a virtual conference experience with a face-to-face cohort experience. In addition to this and other online events hosted by the School Library Journal in October, the third annual global conversation about the future of libraries, Library 2.013, is scheduled for October 18-19.

In addition to these and other virtual conferences already scheduled throughout the school year, Albemarle County Public Schools has hosted two international Breaking Traditions conferences.
