Google Has a New Policy to Protect Student Data

Google

Google is implementing a new policy, intended to protect student data, that affects how students log in from Google to third-party applications. This policy is resulting in a mandated change to our technology environment, which impacts the student experience when logging into apps.

What’s changing and how does this affect me?

As of October 23, 2023, students will only be able to use the “Sign in with Google” method for ACPS-approved applications. Teachers will still be able to use this method for all third-party applications.

What is a third-party application?

A third-party application is an application that students may go to and click “Sign in with Google” and use their ACPS Google account information to sign in to that third-party app.

What should I do to prepare for this change?

Before October 23, visit resources.k12albemarle.org to be sure applications that you are using with your students have been vetted and approved for use in ACPS. Please note that some apps will require guardian permission before use. If you don’t see the application that you would like to use, please submit a request for approval.
