Global Citizen Scholarship – Student Applications Due Nov. 1

Education FirstHigh School Teachers: The 2018 Global Citizen Scholarship is a competitive (and free!) scholarship opportunity open to any student in grades 9-12 (excluding previous participants). Recipients will earn a free trip to the technology-focused Global Leadership Summit in Berlin, Germany, next July, where they’ll collaborate with other young, passionate leaders to design solutions for the evolving technological landscape, and even compete to have those solutions featured in Stockholm’s Nobel Museum. Flu and Tdap Vaccination Clinics Start Oct. 3

Get Your Flu Shot HereOnsite flu and Tdap vaccination clinics will be held October 3 – November 20 at 50+ locations. All Albemarle County employees (including part-time and temporary employees, substitutes, interns, and student teachers) and public safety volunteers (Fire Rescue, Police, Sheriff’s Office) are eligible to receive flu and Tdap vaccinations with no out-of-pocket cost, even if you are not covered through the County’s health plan. 2017 Student Art Contest: Imagine a Day Without Water – Enter by Oct. 16

Imagine a Day Without WaterWith rain levels lower than in past years, staff and students are encouraged to conserve water in our schools and at home by minimizing nonessential water use. To help students connect to the importance of water, students in grades 1-8 are invited to enter the 2017 “Imagine a Day Without Water” Student Art Contest. Poster entries will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Monday, October 16. (If you are a teacher with a large number of posters, you can arrange for a pick up at your school.) Dr. Pamela Moran Will Retire as Superintendent on June 30; Dr. Matthew Haas Appointed as Successor

Pam Moran and Matt HaasDuring its work session on Thursday, September 28, the Albemarle County School Board appointed Dr. Matthew Haas as the school division’s 20th Superintendent, succeeding Dr. Pamela Moran, who announced her retirement yesterday. Dr. Moran will retire on June 30, 2018, and Dr. Haas’ appointment takes effect the next day, July 1.
