Albemarle County again is partnering with Walgreens to bring the flu vaccinations to numerous school and local government sites. All employees (including temporary, substitutes, interns, and student teachers) are eligible to receive a flu vaccination with no out of pocket cost, even if they are not covered on the county insurance plan. Employees may go to any of the following clinics to get vaccinated. Walgreens will not be offering the nasal spray vaccine at these clinics, but they will provide the thimerosal-free vaccine for pregnant and nursing women as supplies are available. Continue reading

All-County Middle School Strings Concert – October 3
On Thursday, October 3, at 6:30 p.m., you are invited to Western Albemarle High School for this free concert, which culminates a full day of cross-school music rehearsals. The concert features 130 string players from all five middle schools. Pieces are rehearsed and conducted by our very own orchestra teachers: Richard Baritaud, Carrie Finnegan, and Shannon Hutchinson-Krupat. Mandated Changes to the Virginia Retirement System
Dear Colleagues:
We want to make you aware of mandated changes to the Virginia Retirement System (VRS) that will take effect on January 1, 2014. This change creates a new type of VRS retirement plan that is a combination of the current system (a defined benefit plan) and an investment account like a 457 or 403b (a defined contribution plan). A Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth—a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker movement.
