Troops to Teachers Project Accepting Applications – Deadline: May 1

National Humanities Center

The National Humanities Center has received funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities for their project, Troops to Teachers: Helping Communities and Classrooms Understand the Military Experience. This five-day Institute will recruit and support up to 30 current K-12 educators who are also veterans in a project-based initiative to help classrooms and communities better understand the military family experience. The ACPS County Student Advisory Council has launched their annual We Notice program! This is an opportunity for students, parents, employees, and community members to recognize a teacher or staff member whose work should be celebrated. Recognition can be given to any staff member who works in our schools, such as teachers, office staff, building service team members, teaching assistants, cafeteria workers, school nurses, and bus drivers. Nominate a colleague today!

UPDATE: The nomination deadline has been extended to Wednesday, April 10. A reception will be held on Thursday, April 25.

NEA Foundation Grant Opportunities – Next Deadline: June 1

The National Education Association (NEA) Foundation offers multiple grant opportunities for educators, including Student Achievement Grants and Learning & Leadership Grants. Three grant deadlines are established annually: February 1, June 1, and October 15. Two levels of funding are available: $2,000 and $5,000. You Could Receive Up to $5,000: Apply for a Shannon Grant by April 19!

The Shannon Foundation wants to help teachers and schools implement their best ideas. Two levels of proposals are invited for the 2019-20 school year:

  • Level 1 grants, not to exceed $750, will be awarded to classroom teachers, individually or in teams, for projects that support original and innovative student activities.
  • Level 2 grants, not to exceed $5,000, may be awarded to schools for creative projects that enhance student learning across age and grade levels.
