Calling all musicians! The Albemarle County Concert Band is open to people of all ability levels and performance experiences who are interested in playing in a concert band and making music together. We rehearse in the band room at Burley Middle School on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8 p.m. If you are interested in joining or would like more information, please contact Jean Flaherty at jflaherty@k12albemarle.org.

2019 Drinking Water Clinic: Kick-Off Meeting May 20

Through the Virginia Household Water Quality Program, Virginia Cooperative Extension holds drinking water clinics across the state to provide people with private water systems access to affordable and confidential water testing, including help interpreting their water test results and information about possible treatment options.

Stepping Stones was created by the Charlottesville Department of Human Services to chart the health of children and their families in the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County. The report includes data on 38 indicators chosen to measure child and family well-being. Topics addressed include community characteristics; conduct in community, discipline in schools; education; family characteristics; finance; housing; and infant and youth health. Albemarle County’s last four coat drives have resulted in more than 2,200 coats, jackets, and assorted winter clothing items going to community members in need. This year’s drive opened in November and will continue accepting donations through the end of February. As of last week, we were only 57 coats short of 2,500 donations in five years! Driving through Virginia, one can see over 200 different personalized license designs, recognizing everything from sports teams to special interests. Delegate John McGuire, who represents the 56th House District, which includes Louisa and parts of Goochland, Henrico and Spotsylvania counties, has partnered with Louisa County Public Schools to recognize teachers statewide.

By registering, residents may receive alerts about critical situations, such as weather warnings and emergency events, and necessary actions.
