In an effort toward business efficiency, we’ve streamlined some behind the scenes benefits coding that will simplify the description of employee premium deductions and employer contributions that you see on your pay statements. These changes apply to medical, dental, and voluntary vision coverage. Starting this week, you will no longer see coding that refers to the name of your plan and tier of coverage. This is the last of our “Open Enrollment Essentials” messages in advance of the November 2023 Open Enrollment window (November 1-15). Today’s message focuses on Disability Coverage.

No one plans to get sick or injured, but it happens, and a serious illness or injury can result in months of disability that keeps you from working and exhausts your paid leave balances. While medical insurance helps cover your medical bills, it doesn’t help you meet financial obligations like rent/mortgage and utility bills, and it doesn’t help you buy food and other necessities. Open Enrollment is the only time during the year when you can change plans and dependents on your plan, unless you have an eligible mid-year qualifying event that allows you to make changes to your pre-tax benefits (like the dental plan).
