James Madison University (JMU) will host an informational meeting for its Educational Leadership programs, including its master’s and certificate options, on Wednesday, May 18, at 5 p.m. via Zoom. In addition to hearing from educators who are engaged in our collective work to eliminate practices that produce inequitable outcomes for students, participants will discover what it means to be an ACPS Culturally Responsive Educator. ACPS has partnered with James Madison University (JMU) to start a cohort of their Master of Education (M.Ed.) program with a concentration in Literacy Education. The program is intended for experienced classroom teachers who want to prepare to become literacy leaders or reading specialists. Mental Health First Aid Training Opportunities

Are you interested in helping support students experiencing mental health challenges?

Albemarle County Public Schools is excited to offer Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training to all staff. Mental Health First Aid helps individuals assist someone who is experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. In the Mental Health First Aid course, you learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help. Join us to learn more about using ActivInspire to create interactive lessons with ActivPanels. VCU’s Culturally Responsive and Inclusive Educator Micro-Credential

The Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Education is partnering with the Virginia Department of Education to pilot a professional learning opportunity for Virginia educators to earn a Culturally Responsive and Inclusive Educator micro-credential. While the VCU program is designed to meet the state’s cultural competency training requirement and you may find it to provide a good general introduction to cultural competencies, please note that the program does not fulfill Albemarle County Public School’s requirement that all ACPS educators complete the ACPS Culturally Responsive Teaching micro-credential.
