Avoid Delayed Retirement Benefits: Submit Your VRS Application by Mar. 15

Retirement PlanningSpring brings daffodils, warmer temps, and retirements! We recommend that employees retiring under the Virginia Retirement System (VRS) submit their VRS application materials to Human Resources (HR) by March 15 in order to avoid delayed retirement benefits. If you are planning on retiring at the end of this school year, be sure to contact John McQuilkin in HR (jmcquilkin@albemarle.org or 434-296-5827 #3074) for more information.

Remember: The submission of retirement applications does not serve as official notice of your retirement to the division. If you are sure that you are not returning next year, please submit a resignation/retirement letter to your principal or supervisor to inform us of your intentions. This helps with staffing for the next school year and ensures that you receive all the information you need with regard to the retirement process.

If you are planning on retiring this year, please keep Tuesday, June 2 open for the annual AEA retirement celebration. The Division wants to celebrate YOU and hopes you will plan to attend this event!
