Instruction Projects for 2016-17Teachers: This fall, the Content Advisory Teams identified projects that we will develop in order to help move the curriculum, assessment and instruction of the school division forward. These projects are in response to the suggestions that both the Content Advisory Teams and some of you made to the Department of Instruction in the last six months. These projects range from curating digital resources to curriculum development to assessment item vetting, with a little bit of everything in between.

We have been through one of the most intense, if not the most intense, election cycles of my lifetime, one which has divided families and communities. Healing these divides lies ahead of our nation.

Those among us who study and love history know that political divides test us as a nation. This is not the first election to do this nor if our democracy stands the test of time, will it be the last. Tomorrow evening, November 9, the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors and School Board will adopt a joint resolution honoring Albemarle County employees who have served our country in the armed forces. Please join us at 6 p.m. at the County Office Building on McIntire Road, Lane Auditorium, for a reading of the joint resolution and a brief slideshow. All employees and their families are invited to attend.

For each weather event that affects the school schedule, the superintendent will provide guidance to 12-month employees regarding expectations for reporting to work. Minimally, notification will be available on the Closings & Delays web page and the School Schedule Hotline (434-296-5886). Snap&ReadAll ACPS educators and students now have access to a powerful accessibility tool called Snap&Read, which is designed to help learners of all ages better access content and organize ideas. Snap&Read is accessible as a Chrome internet browser extension or desktop app and provides on-demand read aloud support for students to engage with any text that they encounter, whether on a website (in any browser), in a PDF, or even part of a picture or illustration. Making Connections 2016Registration for Making Connections 2016 is now available through the ACPS Professional Development website! Get started here with registration details and course descriptions.

Making Connections 2016 will take place on Monday, November 7, at multiple school sites throughout the division. Please sign up as soon as possible to ensure that you receive your top choices and so we can guarantee an accurate lunch count for each location.

If you have already registered, please log in to the Making Connections site and double-check your enrollment by clicking on the “My Enrollments” link on the left.
