Making Connections 2022

Mark your calendar! Our annual Making Connections professional learning event will be held Monday, November 7. Programming will consist of sessions facilitated by visiting educators as well as ACPS teachers and administrators. We are especially excited this year to expand our conference to include opportunities for support staff to participate in professional learning! Sessions for instructional staff will be hosted at Monticello High School, while sessions for support staff will be offered at Journey Middle School.

Any instructional or support staff member who is interested in presenting at Making Connections must submit a session proposal by Monday, September 26. Continue reading

Mental Health First Aid Training Opportunities

Are you interested in helping support students experiencing mental health challenges?

Albemarle County Public Schools is excited to offer Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training to all staff. Mental Health First Aid helps individuals assist someone who is experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. In the Mental Health First Aid course, you learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help. We Notice

We are excited to announce the start of our annual We Notice program! This is an opportunity to recognize a colleague whose work you would like to celebrate. This recognition can be given to any employee who works in our schools, such as teachers, office staff, building service team members, teaching assistants, cafeteria workers, school nurses, and bus drivers.

January 25 Is a Workday for All Employees

As a reminder, Tuesday, January 25, is a workday for all employees, even though students will not be in attendance. The January 25 workday is one of the changes to the 2021-22 School Year Calendar approved by the school board at their meeting on November 11. On this day, staff will attend professional development and training. Please see your supervisor for more information.

Half-Day of Leave Granted to All 12-Month Employees on Nov. 24

Happy Thanksgiving! Following Governor Northam’s announcement that November 24 will be a half-day for state employees, the Albemarle County School Board has granted the same for ACPS employees. Now, in addition to closing for Thanksgiving on Thursday and Friday, November 25 and 26, the board has approved a half-day of leave on Wednesday, November 24, for all 12-month employees. All school division offices will close for the Thanksgiving holiday at 12 noon on November 24.

Return to School 2020-21

Dear Colleagues,

At their upcoming meeting on October 8, the Albemarle County School Board will decide whether the school division will progress to the next stage of reopening (from Stage 2 to Stage 3). The school division will remain in its current stage (Stage 2) through at least the end of the first quarter. The Board’s decision will impact the second quarter of the school year, which begins on November 9. Continue reading
