Safety & Effectiveness of Antibacterial Soaps in Question

Antibacterial SoapACPS works to provide safe and fragrance-free soap through dispensers in restrooms and staff workroom areas. The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) recently banned several antibacterial active ingredients found in antibacterial soap—triclosan and triclocarban are the most common. Manufacturers are no longer allowed to use these ingredients in antibacterial soap; however, soaps produced before the final rule may contain the banned ingredients.

Please refrain from bringing antibacterial soaps to school. If you are in need of a soap dispenser in an area, please contact your lead custodian. Continue reading

Calendar Update: March 31 Will Be a Non-Student Day

March 31Recent news regarding a change to the school calendar: At their meeting on February 23, the School Board voted to restore Friday, March 31, as a Green Work Day (non-student day). Previously, March 31 was scheduled as an inclement weather make-up day. Now on March 31, eligible staff will commute via internet and telephone. Buildings will be in “weekend mode,” with reduced use of heating and air conditioning, fuel, and electricity. Students will not attend school. School now will be in session on both February 20 and March 31, 2017, to make up for recent school closures due to snow. March 31 will serve as the last day of the 3rd 9-week grading period.

Draft 3 of the 2017-18 Calendar Will Go Before School Board on Dec. 8

Calendar UpdateIn response to feedback from multiple stakeholders, including Teacher Advisory, Parent Council, Strategic Cabinet, and Planning Cabinet, along with 971 survey responses from students, parents, employees, and community members, a third draft of the 2017-18 School Year Calendar has been developed.
