After several months in development, we are delighted to invite you to view a draft of our new Albemarle County Public Schools Strategic Plan!

Our strategic plan is how we define the direction that ACPS will take over the next several years. It includes our vision and mission for the school division, as well as our hopes for all of our students and how we will allocate resources to make those a reality.

Coming up on May 18 and 20, we will host Strategic Planning Focus Group sessions for staff and students. Continue reading

The Joint Albemarle County/Charlottesville City Schools Calendar Committee has launched the calendar development process for the 2021-22 school year. Each year, this committee partners to produce a school calendar that supports our shared goals to engage students, improve opportunities and achievement, and get the most productivity out of our resources.

Albemarle County Public Schools is currently developing a Portrait of a Graduate, which is meant to be a collective vision that articulates our entire community’s aspirations for all of our students. Colleagues, we need your input!

Next week, you and all Albemarle County community members will have the opportunity to offer your views on the future direction of our school division. We are requesting your participation, and that of all ACPS stakeholders, at two upcoming virtual community forums that will help shape the direction the schools take over the next several years. These forums, which will be held on November 17 and 19 from 6 to 8 p.m., are an opportunity for you to give feedback on the ACPS Portrait of a Graduate that is currently being designed. Additionally, the forums will offer a chance to discuss ways that the school division can approach learning loss related to COVID-19 and school closures. Continue reading

ACPS Begins Creation of New Strategic Plan

Dear Colleagues,

We are very excited to announce that we have begun the process of creating a new strategic plan for ACPS. On September 3, we will convene the first meeting of the Design Team that will help us develop a new division-wide Portrait of a Graduate. The Portrait will act as a guide in creating the division’s strategic plan, which will aim to ensure that schools engage with and meet the needs of all students while preparing them with the skills and habits they need to thrive in a complex and rapidly-changing world. New Calendar Options for 2020-21: Survey Open Through June 17

As our planning for the coming school year begins to come into better focus, one option we are considering is delaying the start of the new school year until early September.

Our School Board initially approved a 2020-21 calendar in January with Wednesday, August 19, as the first day of school for students. Based largely on feedback from instructional staff that, under current conditions, extra time for planning and preparation would be beneficial, we drafted two additional calendar options for the coming school year. New Web Design & Content Management System Coming in Summer 2020

In response to feedback from students, parents, employees, and community members, ACPS will transition to a new web design and content management system this summer! We’re excited for this opportunity to enhance communications and engagement with our school communities.

After several years with SharePoint as our web design and content management provider, ACPS has decided to move its public-facing internet content to Finalsite. Continue reading
