The Families First Coronavirus Relief Act (FFCRA) Emergency Paid Sick Leave (EPSL) and Expanded FMLA (EFMLA) are set to expire today, September 30, 2021. With the expiration of EPSL and EFMLA, Albemarle County Public Schools is pleased to announce the creation of the COVID Leave Bank, equivalent to 10 days of leave for all regular employees, effective October 1, 2021 – January 31, 2022. YouTube Content Settings

The Department of Technology was made aware of issues where K-8 students were unable to view instructional videos made available by their teachers in YouTube. After reaching out to Google, we learned that they’ve introduced a new approach called Google Service by Age. This change impacts our students’ use of YouTube.

In response to Google’s failure to notify us of this change, ACPS has applied settings to enable appropriate access for all students. At this time, all ACPS students should be able to access YouTube videos while signed into their browser with their ACPS Google account. Continue reading

Next Grading Cohort Launches Oct. 1; Info Session This Thursday!

Secondary Teachers: In September 2020, ACPS adopted a grading policy that articulates our shared philosophy about the role and purpose of grades. To facilitate learning and implementation of current research-based practices on grading, all secondary teachers will be asked to complete the asynchronous Grading Module 1 prior to fall of 2022. Secondary teachers will have the opportunity to join cohorts throughout the 2021-22 school year and during the summer of 2022.

COVID Testing: Location Change for Today Only!

Due to inclement weather and the school closure, we are relocating today’s COVID-19 testing site from Center I to Albemarle High School (AHS). Our goal is to provide a safe location for the testing team and for all participants.

Today’s testing site will operate from 12 to 6 p.m. in the AHS Athletic Lobby. The easiest access is from the bus parking lot behind the school. Continue reading

National Hispanic Heritage Month: Children celebrating

Originally established as Hispanic Heritage Week in 1968, the now month-long tribute is observed from September 15 – October 15. National Hispanic Heritage Month coincides with the national independence days for many Latin American countries and celebrates the history and achievements of the Latino community.

Currently, Latino youth make up 15% of our ACPS student population. They are the fastest growing racial/ethnic population in the county. In keeping with our culturally responsive practices, we encourage you to continue to build partnerships that honor the diverse cultures and experiences of our Latino students, staff and families. Phishing Reminder: Don’t Take the Bait!

Don’t get hooked by phishing attacks! Stay vigilant, have a cautious lens, and think first before you click! Take a few minutes and read through our tutorial to learn more about phishing and how to spot malicious emails in the future.

If you receive an email that asks for your ACPS password or a credit card number, please delete that email ASAP! You should NEVER share your password in response to an email. ACPS COVID-19 Testing Begins

UPDATE: Effective February 3, 2022, everything you need to know about COVID-19 testing for employees is now on our website at www.k12albemarle.org/CovidTesting.

In partnership with GENETWORx, Albemarle County Public Schools is making COVID-19 testing available to all employees. In compliance with the Albemarle County School Board’s resolution (August 12, 2021), all employees who indicated that they are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and those who declined to identify their vaccination status on the Staff Vaccination Status Form are required to test weekly. The first test for employees who are required to test must be completed by Friday, September 24.
