The Administration and Supervision program at the University of Virginia’s School of Education and Human Development will start a new cohort this fall. The application deadline is July 5. Next Grading Cohort Launches June 28 – Informational Meeting on June 16

Secondary Teachers: In September 2020, ACPS adopted a grading policy that articulates our shared philosophy about the role and purpose of grades. To facilitate learning and implementation of current research-based practices on grading, all secondary teachers will be asked to complete the asynchronous Grading Module 1 prior to fall of 2022. Secondary teachers will have the opportunity to join cohorts this summer, throughout the 2021-22 school year, and during the summer of 2022.

Teachers who were reappointed by the School Board on May 13 were sent contracts from the ACPSContracts@albemarle.org account on May 24. As a reminder, these contracts are due on Monday, June 7. If you have not already done so, please sign, date and email your contract as a PDF to ACPSContracts@albemarle.org. You can direct any questions to the same address.

Responsive Classroom & Developmental Designs Summer Institutes: There’s Still Time to Register!

Attention Teachers: It’s not too late to register for Responsive Classroom and Developmental Designs Summer Institutes! Join colleagues in these 4-day virtual workshops and be ready to support the social and emotional learning needs of your students. Participants will receive a $300 stipend and recertification points for attending. New this year, we are adding a Developmental Designs section in July specifically designed for high school teachers!

Teacher Summer Reading Project 2021

Teachers: We invite you to participate in the Teacher Summer Reading Project! Our mission is to seek diverse books for the ACPS Approved Book List, so that current students see themselves reflected in the literature that we read and so that students continue to be exposed to multiple perspectives. This is in alignment with the ACPS Anti-Racism policy and the division’s focus on Culturally Responsive Teaching. This summer, the project will focus on titles at the middle school level and high school 10th and 12th grades. Continue reading

AVID Strategies: Summer Professional Learning Opportunity for Teachers, Grades 6-12

Secondary Teachers: We are excited to offer AVID strategies for your 6-12 classroom this summer! AVID Professional Learning is designed to prepare teachers with the knowledge and skills to implement and execute effective AVID instructional strategies.

Summer 2021 will provide two opportunities for teachers to participate:

  • Monday-Tuesday, June 28-29: Two full days from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.; OR

Secondary Teachers: As we approach the end of the school year, here are a few things to know about your Schoology courses moving forward:

  • All courses will be archived automatically. 
  • We encourage all teachers to review all of their created course content and create a reusable course copy of all content prior to June 30, 2021. We have created this End of Year Best Practices resource to support this process. Continue reading

Is Your Computer Running Slowly? Having It Reimaged Can Fix That!

It may be time to refresh your computer so that it will be reliable, safe, and up-to-date with our most current software that supports teaching and learning!

Teachers: You can work with your school’s assigned TSS staff member to schedule a time to have your computer reimaged. During the reimaging process, everything is deleted from your computer, including all of your documents, pictures, videos, bookmarks, etc. In order to retain all of your files, you will need to back up your computer before it is reimaged. CoderDojo 2021: Teaching Positions Now Open

The CoderDojo Teacher Interest Form for Summer 2021 is now open! Interested teachers should complete this brief form by May 21. Participating teachers will receive $350 and 20 recertification points per week.

CoderDojo is a summer coding camp that provides ACPS elementary students with opportunities for creativity, innovation and fun. As a part of our Summer Recovery program, CoderDojo will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each week in July at various locations throughout the county. Teachers may sign up for individual weeks or the entire month. Continue reading
