Albemarle County Public Schools staff are working diligently to develop a draft budget for next school year that will enable high-quality teaching and learning while meeting student, employee and family needs. Your views are an important part of that work! This fall, we hosted several community conversations in which we invited students, employees, and advisory groups to share ideas for improving teaching and learning in our schools. When I became Superintendent of Schools in 2018, my first order of business was a Listening Tour. I met with hundreds of employees and students across our division to understand how I could best support you in your work, not just in providing resources, but in helping to create a climate that allowed you to prosper and grow as a professional.
If you read my Weekly Check-in on Friday, you know that one of the most important parts of my week, every week, are my visits to one of our schools or departments. As we previously announced, the ACPS Department of Human Resources has partnered with Gallup, a global analytics and advice firm, to help us better understand and measure our employee engagement. On Monday, April 25, all non-temporary employees received an email directly from Gallup containing a unique link to participate in Gallup’s Q12 Employee Engagement Survey. Today, May 9, is the last day to participate in the survey.

The Speak Up Survey is a district and national research initiative designed to amplify the voices and perspectives of students, families and teachers about technology and learning. Input from you and your students will impact how ACPS uses technology to support schools. In the past, we have received thousands of responses across the district, and this year, we’re aiming for 100% participation from students, families, teachers and administrators. Your feedback will be used to inform important U.S. national and state discussions on digital learning policies, programs and funding through Project Tomorrow’s release of national data findings each spring.
