Policy Updates

Albemarle County Public Schools has a number of policies that govern our operations in alignment with state code and our division vision, mission and values. Our policies must be reviewed once every five years, though we often review them more frequently due to changes in Virginia Code or the needs of our school system. So far in 2022, we have updated, revised or deleted 18 policies. As part of the review process, we use our Equity Checklist to ensure that our policies are having a positive impact on equity in the school division. Continue reading

VCU’s Culturally Responsive and Inclusive Educator Micro-Credential

The Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Education is partnering with the Virginia Department of Education to pilot a professional learning opportunity for Virginia educators to earn a Culturally Responsive and Inclusive Educator micro-credential. While the VCU program is designed to meet the state’s cultural competency training requirement and you may find it to provide a good general introduction to cultural competencies, please note that the program does not fulfill Albemarle County Public School’s requirement that all ACPS educators complete the ACPS Culturally Responsive Teaching micro-credential. ACPS Single Sign-On Page Is Changing March 1

Beginning tomorrow, March 1, you will notice a new look and feel to the ACPS single sign-on (SSO) page. The updated page will allow us to use this service with additional systems and increased security. You should not experience any access issues due to this change.

Dear Families, Students & Staff:

Beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, March 1, students no longer will be required to wear masks on school property, including on school buses. These changes are required by the new state law, Senate Bill 739, which was signed by Governor Glenn Youngkin on February 16. Continue reading

8th Annual WinterSongs Benefit Concert – Feb. 26

Saturday, February 26, 2022 | 1 p.m. | Livestream

The 8th annual WinterSongs benefit concert, which raises money for the Shelter for Help in Emergency, will be performed via livestream this Saturday, February 26, beginning at 1 p.m. Joining the Burley Bearettes Treble Chorus this Saturday will be vocalists from Albemarle High School’s Advanced Women’s Ensemble; Monticello High School’s Women’s Chorus, No Fella A Capella; and The Knightengales from Charlottesville High School. Due to COVID-19 health concerns, the concert will be performed live from Monticello High School and broadcast to the public via livestream. Continue reading

Anti-Racism Policy Orientation

ACPS Anti-Racism Policy Orientation

As you may recall, in alignment with the school division’s Anti-Racism Policy, Superintendent Haas and the Albemarle County School Board asked all employees to complete the ACPS Anti-Racism Policy Orientation. The orientation takes approximately 45 minutes to complete and includes a verification form at the end that will confirm the completion of all activities. During the fall, we reached an 89% completion rate. With your support, we are hoping to reach 100% by Friday, April 1, 2022. Continue reading
