It’s time once again for Albemarle County’s Online Annual Training (OATs), your required yearly review of policies, procedures, and other important information for all regular full-time and part-time Albemarle County Public Schools employees. Please note that substitutes and temporary employees are not required to complete this training.

Updated COVID-19 Leave Programs

You may remember the leave programs we rolled out last spring 2020 under legislation known as the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA). This mandated two kinds of leave: Emergency Paid Sick Leave (EPSL) and Emergency Expanded FMLA (EEFMLA). While the mandated leave programs under the FFCRA expired on December 31, 2020, and were voluntarily extended through March 31, 2021, Albemarle County Government and Albemarle County Public Schools are again voluntarily extending and expanding these programs effective April 1 through September 30, 2021, pursuant to the recently signed American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.

School Division to Enhance Its Human Resources Support & Services for Employees

The school division and Albemarle County local government are engaging professional consultants to review their human resources structure for serving employees. The ultimate outcome will be separate human resources departments for each organization—departments that will be more closely aligned with each organization’s specific strategic and operational needs. We previously announced that we temporarily disabled the conversion of annual leave at or above 320 hours that normally occurs at the end of an employee’s birth month through February 28, 2021. In recognition that 12-month employees may not be able to take time off for the immediate foreseeable future, we will be extending this suspension through December 31, 2021. Continue reading

Important Information About the Unemployment Compensation Application Process: Possible Fraud

The Virginia Employment Commission (VEC) notifies our Human Resources Department whenever it receives an unemployment compensation claim from a former Albemarle County Public Schools employee. Our department recently received several notifications of claims for current employees that include personal information that, after an initial investigation, we believe in some cases to be fraudulent. The individuals have been directly notified by Human Resources and provided instructions for next steps.

At tonight’s School Board meeting, the Board will hear the plans associated with implementation of Stage 4 of our Return to School plan. This will be an overview of Stage 4, focusing on the instructional plan, operations, and staffing.
