February is Black History Month, a celebration of the achievements and brilliance of the African American community!  Black History Month was envisioned by Carter G. Woodson and his colleagues who founded the Association for the Study of African American Life and History and instituted a week-long celebration of Black history in 1926. In the late 1960s, due to the growing civil rights movement, the week-long celebration evolved into a month-long “Black History Month,” a recognition encouraging schools and communities to organize local celebrations, history events, performances, and lectures uplifting the history of African Americans. Extension of COVID-19 Leave Bank

With the expiration of the Families First Coronavirus Relief Act (FFCRA) Emergency Paid Sick Leave (EPSL) and Expanded FMLA (EFMLA) on September 30, 2021, Albemarle County Public Schools created a program called COVID Leave Bank, equivalent to 10 days of leave for all regular employees, effective October 1, 2021, and set to expire January 31, 2022. This program has been extended through April 30, 2022, for continued usage by employees who have not exhausted the 10 days of leave. Continue reading

2021-22 Speak Up Technology Survey Now Open

The Speak Up Survey is a district and national research initiative designed to amplify the voices and perspectives of students, families and teachers about technology and learning. Input from you and your students will impact how ACPS uses technology to support schools. In the past, we have received thousands of responses across the district, and this year, we’re aiming for 100% participation from students, families, teachers and administrators. Your feedback will be used to inform important U.S. national and state discussions on digital learning policies, programs and funding through Project Tomorrow’s release of national data findings each spring.

A Special Message to Employees From the Superintendent

Superintendent Haas visited Monticello High School on Friday, January 21, to serve as a substitute teacher, following similar visits to Albemarle and Western Albemarle high schools. The visit gave Dr. Haas the opportunity to meet with both students and staff and to share a message of gratitude for the extraordinary contributions all employees are making to families, students, and to one another in the current environment.

January 25 Is a Workday for All Employees

As a reminder, Tuesday, January 25, is a workday for all employees, even though students will not be in attendance. The January 25 workday is one of the changes to the 2021-22 School Year Calendar approved by the school board at their meeting on November 11. On this day, staff will attend professional development and training. Please see your supervisor for more information.

First Paycheck on Our Positive Pay System Incoming!

Tomorrow, Friday, January 21, all ACPS employees will receive their first paycheck on our new biweekly schedule. This check will include pay for all hours worked from January 1-14, 2022.

You can review your paystub in our new payroll processing system, ADP. Paystubs were available for viewing beginning at noon today, but direct deposits will not be available until January 21. Continue reading
