CRT and the Brain Book Study: New Dates!

Our popular Culturally Responsive Teaching and The Brain book study series is a five-session Zoom course. Participants process the entire text through small group discussions and ongoing classroom strategy application. Our next series will take place in January and February as follows:

  • Elementary | five consecutive Tuesdays, January 11 – February 8 | 3 to 4:15 p.m.
  • Elementary & Secondary | five consecutive Thursdays, January 13 – February 10 | 4:45 to 6:15 p.m.

Update: Annual Leave Overages

We previously announced that we temporarily disabled the conversion of annual leave at or above 320 hours that normally occurs at the end of an employee’s birth month through December 31, 2021. Please keep reading for information about enrolling in our new payroll processing system, making changes to 403b/457 deferred compensation elections, and a special summer savings opportunity for 10- and 11-month employees.

Enroll in ADP

On January 3, 2022, each ACPS employee will receive an email from County_of_Albemarle.HR@adp.com. This email will contain a unique-to-you registration code that you will use to create an account with ADP, our new payroll processing system. Every ACPS employee will need to complete this registration process in order to access their payroll information. Continue reading

Are You Registered to Receive Messages Through Our Mass Communication System?

Albemarle County Public Schools uses an Electronic School Notification System (ESNS) to share important information with our school community (including parents/guardians, employees, and students*) through voice, email and text messaging. We currently use a company called BrightArrow to provide this service.

As an employee, your k12albemarle.org email address is automatically enrolled in our ESNS system. Did you know that you can also add a personal email address and up to two phone numbers? Also, new this school year, employees can register to receive text messages. You can visit the Employees tab of our Electronic School Notification System web page and click on the web-based update tool to review, update, enroll or unenroll your contact information. You’re invited! Join our Superintendent, Matthew Haas, in an 8-week virtual book study geared toward instructional leaders. The study group will meet virtually every two weeks beginning January 6, 2022, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

In ACPS, we strive for equity. In fact, equity is one of our four core values, and we support that value through a commitment to provide every student with the level of support necessary to thrive. Our group will read and study Breakthrough Leadership, by Blankstein and Newsome, and participants will expand their repertoire of strategies for meeting students where they are and providing them with the right support for success. This fall, we hosted several community conversations in which we invited students, employees, families, and advisory groups to share ideas for improving teaching and learning in our schools. Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify “code,” to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science.
