Google Has a New Policy to Protect Student Data

Google

Google is implementing a new policy, intended to protect student data, that affects how students log in from Google to third-party applications. This policy is resulting in a mandated change to our technology environment, which impacts the student experience when logging into apps.

What’s changing and how does this affect me?

As of October 23, 2023, students will only be able to use the “Sign in with Google” method for ACPS-approved applications. Teachers will still be able to use this method for all third-party applications. Continue reading

The benefits Open Enrollment window will be open November 1-15! Open Enrollment is an important part of the benefits year, as it’s the one time during the year when current employees can make any changes they’d like to their medical or dental plans (or the dependents covered on those plans), and it’s the one time during the year when employees can elect to make FSA (Flexible Spending Account) contributions for the new year. FEMA & FCC Plan Nationwide Emergency Alert Test for Oct. 4

The Office of Strategic Communications is sharing the following information for awareness, as this event has the potential to temporarily disrupt the learning environment.

Beginning at approximately 2:20 p.m. this Wednesday, October 4, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alerts. The purpose of the test is to ensure that these systems continue to be effective means of warning the public about emergencies, particularly those on the national level. Continue reading

Race Matters in School Communities: Join the Conversation

The Counseling Alliance of Virginia (CAVA), in partnership with the Office of Community Engagement, Families Helping Families, and ACPS Family Council, invites participation in a series of unique and powerful conversations to inspire positive changes for racial awareness, sensitivity and responsibility in our region. We are looking for a representative from each school in our division to engage in these honest and disruptive conversations, not only for personal development, but also to share insights and initiatives with their school community and parent-teacher organization (PTO).

The series, Race Matters in School Communities, includes eight monthly discussions facilitated by CAVA. The group will meet locally on the second Tuesday of the month, October through May, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dates are as follows: October 10, November 14, December 12, January 9, February 13, March 12, April 9, and May 14. Dinner will be provided, and child care will be offered.

2023 ACPS Vaccination Clinic Schedule

Serve the Community - Give the Gift of Immunity

BeWell Albemarle is happy to announce that ACPS and Giant have partnered again this year to bring important vaccinations to 50 locations throughout Albemarle County. All ACPS employees (including part-time, temporary, substitutes, interns, and student teachers) are eligible to receive flu and other vaccinations with no out-of-pocket cost, even if you do not participate in the school division’s health insurance plans.

On-site vaccination clinics are scheduled to start this Thursday, September 28, and will continue into mid-November. You are welcome to attend any clinic held at any location listed on the schedule. Continue reading

Windows Updates for ACPS Laptops

The Department of Technology wants you to be aware that Windows will require an important update by Sunday, September 24. If the update does not have the opportunity to install by Sunday, your ACPS laptop may force a restart on Monday and then begin installing this required update. The update may take an extended time (10-30 minutes) to complete, so please plan accordingly.

Windows updates will continue to happen throughout the school year on a periodic basis. Continue reading
